Hospitality Job Virtual Fair

Fall 2021

Welcome, and thank you for participating in our first virtual hospitality job fair. The fair will be hosted through Zoom.

This industry-focused event will feature many of our area’s top hospitality employers, including Hotel, Restaurant, Food Service, and other travel and tourism companies.  Employers will be looking to fill many positions – everything from entry-level to management positions.

Representatives from participating companies will talk about their hiring processes, who they’re looking for, and company culture. Then it’s your turn to ask questions during a live 40-minute Q&A! Take advantage of the opportunity to ask about everything from the application process—are cover letters actually necessary? —to life at the company in general.

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW CAN I PREPARE BEFORE THE VIRTUAL JOB FAIR?

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to make an "all out" effort to review every employer that has the potential to hire you. In order to make that happen you will need to be prepared. Preparation is the key to making a successful presentation at any job or career fair.

Prior to the Event (PREPARE!)

Listen to these job fair related podcasts:

Jump Start Your Job Fair Jargon - Impress recruiters with these phrases at your next career event.

Interviews: Via Virtual Venue - Virtual interviews are as critical as in-person contact: what job seekers need to know for their close up.

To make the most of the event, we also recommend the following:

  • Think about your strong points, your goals, the organization and where you want to go within the company. If the employer is scheduling interviews, prepare a "one-minute commercial" detailing your background and aspirations.
  • Consider where you want to work geographically (New York - Boston - anywhere), what you like doing, what you're looking for in a first job, what your most relevant skills are.
  • Prepare your résumé! If you need assistance in preparing a résumé, attend résumé workshops, use the examples found in your Career Services office. Once you've started, meet with a counselor to "fine tune" your résumé.
  • Upload your résumé to College Central Network and/or create a Career Portfolio including Work Samples and training certificates that would be of interest to potential employers.

I’VE NEVER HEARD OF A VIRTUAL JOB FAIR… HOW DOES THIS WORK?
This event is just like an in-person job fair, but online! Each participating company has its own virtual “booth” (Zoom room) that you can join from the comforts of your home. Use this time to ask hiring managers questions about their open positions, their culture, and what it’s like working for their organization. Each participating company will also be giving short presentations throughout the fair - the content for each presentation is the same, so make sure to check out each company’s room to learn more! Every student needs to register to receive the zoom event link.

IS THIS A HIRING EVENT? HOW DO I APPLY TO ROLES AND SEND MY RESUME?
Yes it is! Each company has a page on our job portal College Central Network (CCN) where you can read more about their organization and see their open roles. Before the fair, make sure your resume is uploaded in your CCN profile and is up-to-date so you can select “Search Employer Profiles” link in red Alert! section of Dashboard feature and and submit your resume and/or portfolio to let companies know you’re interested!

WHO IS THIS EVENT FOR?
This event is intended for students interested in the Hospitality industry, however, all RSVP’d attendees are welcome, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, or age.

HOW DO I JOIN/LOGIN? HOW DO I NAVIGATE BETWEEN ROOMS DURING THE FAIR?
After you register you will receive the zoom link information to join on the date of the event. From there you will be directed to the main zoom room and you will then pick the company's zoom room you'd like to join. If you'd like to see multiple presentations, then you can close the Zoom Room tab & choose another company from the main Virtual Job Fair link you received from the registration.

DO YOU HAVE TO ATTEND THE FULL 3 HOURS?

You do not have to stay for the whole event. We've designed a rotating schedule of company presentations so that you can attend each presentation while also being able to but drop in on any company room that interests you. You also have the option to leave the fair entirely and come back if that’s more convenient for you.

IS THIS A VIDEO CALL AND IS THE EVENT RECORDED?

While being on camera is not mandatory, we recommend keeping it on and unmuting your microphone to introduce yourself to the hiring managers and virtually network with attendees. You will also have access to the chat box if you are unable to unmute and ask questions live.

The event is recorded, but it will not be available for attendees to access after the fair. We've put together a rotating schedule of company presentations so even if you only have a short break, you could still drop in on a presentation or two (if you're interested in several companies).

CAN I ATTEND VIA SMARTPHONE?

Yes, you should be able to log in via smartphone. You can dial into the Zoom conference room just by phone or you can download the Zoom app which would enable you to see the presentations from the various companies (& share your own camera if you'd like). You'll also be able to log in, then sign out & come back later, or visit various Zoom rooms to see/talk to different companies as you wish.

SHOULD I DRESS FOR THE EVENT?
No need to dress for the occasion at all, in fact, a lot of our hosts & company presenters will be dressed casually as they work from home. We encourage participation from our attendees and you’ll be free to turn on your camera for some face-time with the company. But you're also welcome to keep your camera turned off & even post your questions in the text chat if you'd prefer. If you do get selected for an interview we do recommend you dress up for that.
